The goal of this course is to introduce students to several important social, historical, and economic aspects that affect the Arab society in Israel. This course will discuss trends in the 20th century that influenced the developing social and civil identity of Palestinians in Israel. Our course will cover issues of socioeconomic status and rights, gender in society, migration, social movements, art, and Israeli education policies in Arab schools. This course will describe the reality of the Palestinians in Israel by looking at the criteria that the Arab society in Israel uses to define itself. In this manner, students will also become familiarized with the challenges that face this society in the 21st century.
